Directions by car or rail

You can reach Freyburg by car from the A9, A4 or A14 motorways via the B180 or B176. The route to Neuenburg Castle is well signposted in Freyburg and the surrounding area. Please use the visitor car park at “Berghotel zum Edelacker”, which is also suitable for coaches and mobile homes. From there, it is just a 5-minute walk to Neuenberg Castle.

If you arrive by train, we recommend the station in Naumburg an der Saale. From there, an hourly regional train travels the seven kilometres to Freyburg. From Freyburg station, it is roughly a 15 minute walk to Neuenburg Castle.

Castle tour
A castle tour lasts roughly 50 minutes, during which time you learn about the rise and fall of the Thuringian landgraves, interesting facts about the history of the castle's construction and what makes the late Romanesque double chapel so special.
Book a castle tour
Guided tour for children
Dressed as miniature members of the royal court, you parade Neuenburg Castle and explore certain rooms. One of Neuenburg Castle’s greatest secrets is, of course, revealed: the legendary “Woman in White”.
Booking enquiries From April to October, costumed public events will take place at 2 p.m. every day from Tuesday to Sunday (November to March: Tuesday to Saturday). These can be attended without booking. Minimum group size: eight people.

Tour with audio guide
The audio guides include not only the museum, but also the grounds of the castle as far as the “Dicker Wilhelm” keep. The outdoor walk especially, with its many glimpses of nature, is extremely enjoyable with the audio tour playing in the background.

Museum remains closed until further notice

Based on the "Fourth Law for the Protection of the Population in the Event of an Epidemic Situation of National Significance" in conjunction with the local 7-day incidence, the museum will remain closed until further notice.

We will inform you about the current developments on our websites and social media.

Museum shop

Your visit to the museum at Neuenburg Castle includes browsing the lovingly furnished museum shop. This is right by the main entrance, in front of the Lion Gate (Löwentor). You can shop there before and after visiting the castle, or without entering the castle at all.

The offer ranges from specialist and popular literature, postcards, decorations, jewellery and ceramics to select wines, liqueurs and brandies. You will also find numerous articles for children, such as books, toys and much more.

Our friendly staff will be happy to answer any questions you have about the range or your orders from the online shop. For your convenience, cashless payment is available with all major credit and debit cards, or you can buy on account.
